4 GCSE subjects at 3 points or D grade and above including English

Language, maths and a science subject. Candidates are encouraged

to ensure they gain points in all subjects taken.

What's Involved

BTEC First Extended Certificate in Applied Science gives you a chance to enhance your knowledge of general science if you are interested in science related careers. It is a multidisciplinary subject covering the areas of biology, physics and chemistry which gives you a basis for future employment or higher level studies. The course is suitable for school leavers and for mature students as well. There are 12 units (8 mandatories and 4 optional), that students complete over a one-year period.

Course Assessment Method

20% (2 units) of the course is externally assessed

80% of the course is based on practical laboratory work (a portfolio of works) and continuous assignments to demonstrate your understanding of topics.

What's Next

The course is the equivalent to 3 GCSEs in science.

After completion you can progress to L3 courses in science, apprenticeship or employment (junior roles).
