What's Involved

This course is aimed at managers, supervisors and staff with health and safety responsibilities from organisations in a wide range of sectors who need grounding in health and safety issues.

The certificate helps people to manage risks effectively. As a widely recognised qualification in health and safety, the NEBOSH Certificate provides the first step for a career in health and safety. The programme concentrates on training the manager to apply sound management principles to safety and health issues as part of a total management strategy.

Please note that the exams will take place at set points throughout the year.

The next exam is planned for June 2019

Students will be expected to carry out independent study outside of the classroom environment to develop their knowledge and understanding relating to the subject matter. Whilst a time scale cannot be put on the amount of independent study, your lecturer will be able to give guidance in relation to the topics discussed.

In addition, your lecturer will give you suggested homework each week. This could be the answering of a sample question that you may encounter within your end exam.

Typical units covered during the course include:

Course Assessment Method

Units NGC1 and GC2 are taught units each assessed by 2 two-hour written examinations. Each written examination consists of ten ‘short-answer’ questions and one ‘long-answer’ question. All questions are compulsory. Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH. The exams will take place June 2019

Unit NGC3 is assessed by one two-hour practical examination carried out in the candidate's own workplace. The assessment must normally be taken within 10 working days of a written examination. The practical examination is internally assessed by the programme organiser and externally moderated by NEBOSH.

Candidates will be awarded a unit certificate for each unit passed. Once a candidate has successfully completed all three units (NGC1, GC2 and GC3), the overall qualification parchment will be issued.
