Vacancy Application Process

From filling out your application form to joining as a member of staff, we aim to make the journey as simple and as transparent as possible.

Application form

All application forms must be submitted to HR by the stated closing date. All applicants are short-listed by a panel, against the qualifications and work experience on the person specification.

The interview

Human Resources will organise the interview event and contact short-listed candidates inviting them to attend interviews. Additional information regarding presentation requirements will also be discussed if appropriate, giving at least one week’s notice where possible. Candidates are asked to confirm whether they can attend and should make the Human Resources Section aware of any special needs. Should candidates require any equipment for presentations/skills tests they should contact HR to arrange in advance. On the day of the interview, candidates should follow the information from their invitation to interview letter regarding arrival times and venues. Candidates may be given a short tour of the college and meet potential work colleagues. This is sometimes a two-part stage, where candidates must pass stage one, usually a skills test or a presentation, to get through to stage two, the formal interview. At the end of the interview day, the interview panel will make a decision on the successful candidate to be made an offer of employment. A decision is made as quickly as possible and usually within 24 hours.

Following the interview

The preferred candidate is provisionally offered the position, providing DBS clearance and suitable references are received. Following acceptance by the successful candidate, the paperwork for the unsuccessful candidates is prepared and despatched, including the offer of feedback, which is available upon request. DBS clearance prior to the start date is essential for the following: Professional Tutors, Learning Advisers, Student Support Advisers, Assessors, any role in one of the childcare centres and any roles where there may be unsupervised one-to-one contact with learners.

The letter and contract will be posted to the successful candidate along with a New Starter Pack which asks for completion of a medical questionnaire, a criminal background request check, pension’s information booklet, bank details form and qualifications. The New Starter Pack should be completed and handed into Human Resources no later than the first day of employment when the successful candidate will commence with their college induction programme.

We hope to hear from you soon and look forward to welcoming you into our world.
