Entry 2 – Level 1

On this course students will further develop skills for work and be able to use these skills in a work placement at least one day a week. They will also investigate the world of work and continue to improve English, maths and ICT skills.

Course Assessment Method

Work placements

Students access a wide range of work placements on the Workskills programme. Work placements include: The Dogs Trust, Patchwork People, Café JJ, Coast and Country Housing, The Coop, Kings Church, Mowbray School or internal placements.

Enterprise activities

As part of their course they will have the opportunity to take part in our enterprise activities. Groups meet to plan business ideas e.g. making craft goods to sell, working on up-cycling or running the college sweet trolley.

Volunteering and fund raising activities

Students on Next Steps have lots of opportunities to take part in volunteering and fund raising activities.

In the past few months we have supported organisations such as: Family Help, King’s Centre, Samaritan’s Purse, St Theresa’s Hospice, British Heart Foundation and Darlington Powerchair Football to name but a few.

Extra independent living skills training

Dilston Specialist College are working with us to provide independent living skills training to students who would benefit. They have a residential property in Darlington where they can help young people to develop their independence in the home as part of their course. We can organise this on an individual basis.
