Individual employers set the selection criteria, but this is likely to include 5 GCSEs, including maths and English, although some employers will accept other relevant qualifications and experience, including a relevant Level 2 qualification.
This Apprenticeship is designed to provide access to development opportunities for as wide a range of individuals as possible. This includes individuals who are at the start of their career in leadership and management and who wish to take their first steps into professional management. It is also appropriate for those already in management roles who may already have developed practical experience but who wish to develop their theoretical understanding of management skills.
The Apprenticeship programme is designed with a CMI Level 3 in in Principles of Management and Leadership Diploma qualification included. As part of this coursework assessed qualification, apprentices may study the following modules:
> Principles of Management and Leadership
> Managing a Team to Achieve Results
> Building Stakeholder Relationships using Effective Communication
> Contributing to the Delivery of a Project
> Managing Daily Activities to Achieve Results
> Managing Budgets and Resources
> Managing Data and Information
> Managing Own Personal and Professional Development
In addition, a workplace portfolio will be produced that will demonstrate competency across a range of knowledge, skills, and behaviours. The portfolio evidence will consist largely of activities carried out as part of the Apprentice’s job role.
Course Assessment Method
Each module of the Level 3 in Principles of Management and Leadership Diploma is assessed through a written piece of coursework. In addition, the End Point Assessment must be successfully achieved to complete the Apprenticeship programme.
The End Point Assessment:
Each Apprenticeship standard is concluded with a competency test called the End Point Assessment. For the Team Leading standard this assessment consists of the following elements:
> Scenario based questions to test knowledge
> Competency based interview
> Assessment of portfolio of evidence
> Professional discussion relating to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activity.
Students from this programme have continued on to study Level 5 CMI Leadership and Management and Level 7 Strategic Leadership and Management. The Level 5 programme can also be studied as an Apprenticeship.
