You will need 4 GCSE passes at 3 points or grade D and above, including English, or a Level 1 vocational qualification in a relevant subject area.
You will be required to attend an interview at the college for all courses and Apprenticeships and we will request a school or college report.
You will be required to purchase and wear a uniform whilst at college and will also need basic learning materials
Further requirements will include sports kit, which includes running trainers and outdoor footwear.
You will need to be determined, reliable and focused. Good communication and interpersonal skills are desirable but not essential as they will be developed throughout the course, along with fitness, leadership and teamwork.
The Level 2 Diploma in Public Services (QCF) is a qualification targeted towards learners interested in pursuing a career in one of the uniformed services. Throughout this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of employment opportunities across the breadth of uniformed services, and further enhance your skills and personal qualities to pursue a career in your chosen uniformed service.
Specifically, you will explore aspects of physical fitness, develop team working and problem solving skills, develop an understanding of health, safety and hygiene, carryout map reading and navigation and follow uniformed services routines.
If you have not achieved a C grade or above in English or maths, you will as part of your course be required to work towards this as part of your study programme. You will be given the opportunity to go on work experience at certain times during your course.
To develop your employability opportunities you may also be given enrichment classes. This may focus upon additional qualifications, industrial updating and career preparation
Course Assessment Method
You will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence. The portfolio will confirm knowledge, understanding and skills you have learnt. Tutors will provide guidance on how to prepare the portfolio of evidence, how to show practical achievement, and understanding of the knowledge required to successfully complete this qualification. It is this booklet along with the portfolio of evidence that will serve as the prime source of evidence for this qualification.
Evidence in the portfolio may take the following forms:
> Observed work
> Witness statements
> Audio-visual media
> Evidence of prior learning or attainment
> Written questions
> Oral questions
> Case studies
This course will help improve your prospects in jobs within the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, RAF, Fire and Police Services and HM Customs and Excise. Students with a Merit grade or above could progress onto the Level 3 Uniformed Public Service course

What does it Cost?
This course is free if you are 16-18 years of age on August 31 of the calendar year in which you begin your studies. If you are 19 - 23 years of age fees may apply. However help may be available.
