4 GCSE’s at grade C/4 and above, including in English and maths (a grade 3/D in maths may be acceptable pending a discussion with course tutors), or the Level 2 Diploma in Public Services at Distinction grade and English language 4 or above.
You will be required to attend an interview at college and a School reference will be requested.
This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success when moving towards a career in the uniformed protective services, for example, Police, Fire & Rescue Service's, HM Prison Service and the Armed Forces. You will find out what people in different services do in their job roles, how they work and how they interact with each other. You will develop skills and qualities that potential uniformed service employers would be looking for. You will have the opportunity to visit a variety of uniformed service establishments throughout the course, and this could include residential visits. Display and recruiting teams from the uniformed protective service will visit you at the college to talk about different aspects of working within their specific service environments.
You will be given the opportunity to go on work experience at certain times during your course.
To develop your employability opportunities you may also be given enrichment classes. This may focus upon additional qualifications, industrial updating and career preparation.
Maximum UCAS points is 84. (Equivalent to one and a half A Level's)
After successful completion of this course you will be able to progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Uniformed Protective Services.
Course Assessment Method
Throughout the course you are continuously assessed using a variety of methods, eg assignments, practical assessments, presentations etc. these will form 88% of the marks and one external assessed unit in the form of a written exam (22% of marks) Functional skills are also included in the programme and assessed externally.
After successful completion of this course you could progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Public Uniformed Services or into careers within the Armed Forces, the Emergency Services or other Public Services.

This course is free if you are 16-18 years of age on August 31 of the calendar year in which you begin your studies. If you are 19 - 23 years of age fees may apply. However help may be available.
