You must be confident that you can work at a Level 3 standard, therefore you must have a Level 2 Beauty Therapy or Level 2 Nail Services qualification for entry onto the programme. Applicants will be advised of suitability at interview. A keen interest in the subject is essential. We will request a college report and you will need to attend an interview at the college, which will include a trade test and an entry assignment.
You must be fully committed to study at home.
This course is a specialist vocationally related qualification which will enable learners to gain the skills, knowledge and understanding required in order to perform advanced techniques in nail technology, such as the application and maintenance of acrylic and light cured gel. You will also learn advanced techniques in nail art such as embedding, embellishing and 3D designs. Airbrush techniques will also form part of this qualification. Learners will be able to gain the skills, knowledge and understanding in order to perform professional nail treatments for clients. The course will also provide learners with advanced skills so that you can gain employment in the nail service industry. As this is a new qualification for this year the additional units have changed and they now include spray tanning and social media marketing for the hair or beauty sector.
To develop your employability opportunities there is the option to attend enrichment classes, for example: Spray Tan Courses, Lash extension Courses, Advanced Courses. These may focus upon additional qualifications, industrial updating and career preparation.

You will be required to purchase a kit, textbook and uniform which is essential for the success of your course and will be required immediately.
Course Assessment Method
You will be assessed on a continual basis for written and practical work. There will a synoptic test which will consist of a series of treatments which you will need to perform under exam conditions. At the end of the course you will need to submit a treatment portfolio of evidence which you will be shown how to complete. There will be two written tests which will cover certain units in each. All practical work, exams and synoptic exams are graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.
On completion of your course you may enter any of our related areas such as beauty, complementary therapies or hairdressing to allow you to gain more skills to add to your employment portfolio.
Employment opportunities could include working as a nail technician, you could also work in beauty salons, health spas or set up your own business. Maybe you dream of travelling? Then fulfil your dream while working on cruise liners or airlines.
