Course Name: Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel & Tourism

Entry Requirements

Applicants need to have completed the Introductory Diploma in Travel and Tourism as a prerequisite to this course.

What's Involved

The completion of this course plus the Introductory Diploma will enable sufficient UCAS points to apply to a variety of different universities.

Previous students who have studied this course have also gone on to take job roles as travel agents with Hays Travel; cabin crew with Jet2 and overseas representatives including Camp America.

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism study programme will consist of key elements which you will need to complete:

- Main qualification – as above

- Individual and group tutorial sessions

- Independent study project

- Industry related work placement

- Development of English and mathematics. You will be required to undertake a formal qualification if you have not already achieved a GCSE in either subjects.

The Darlington College Travel and Tourism Department organise a number of compulsory UK visits for the students during 2020/2021. The visits will be directly linked to the curriculum and will support the students written assignments.

We are asking parents/guardians for a one off contribution, which will cover travel and entrance into the attractions. Financial support may be available for those who are eligible so please contact Student Finance (01325 503037) if you feel you qualify.

Course Assessment Method

You will be assessed by coursework. The coursework will be assessed in the form of written assignments, practical assessments including role-plays and oral presentations.

What's Next

Opportunities for progression on to higher education courses. The Extended Diploma qualification provides sufficient UCAS points to study a Tourism Management degree course at various universities.

This course provides opportunities for employment in the Travel and Tourism industry. Examples of job roles include; travel agent, hotel conference and events, customer service front of house, marketing, tourism, cabin crew and airport handling staff.

After a period of working and gaining experience within the sector, positions available could include; social media, a managerial role or even running your own business.

What does it Cost?

This course is free if you are 16-18 years of age on August 31 of the calendar year in which you begin your studies.

Course fees are payable to Darlington College. Registration and membership fees may be payable. All course fees are per year.
