Course Assessment Method
The assessment is portfolio based and will include a range of tasks. Some of these will be practical assessments, role plays, written reports, presentations and map work.
You can progress from a Level 1 qualification in Travel and Tourism, or you will require 4 GCSEs at grade 2/3 or D/E and above, including English and maths.
If you do not have a grade 9-4 or A-C in English and/or maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your study programme.
What does it Cost?
This course is free if you are 16-18 years of age on August 31 of the calendar year in which you begin your studies. If you are 19+ years of age fees may apply. However help may be available. To see if you can receive any funding call our Student Services Team on 01325 503030.
Course fees are payable to Darlington College. Registration and membership fees may be payable. All course fees are per year.

This one-year course provides you with a solid foundation of the travel industry preparing you for an apprenticeship, higher level study (e.g. Level 3) or employment within various avenues of work in this exciting industry sector.
You will also gain valuable transferable skills that can be applied to the workplace or further study.
This course also comes with an additional programme of study, the NCFE Introduction to Cabin Crew.
What will I study?
Modules on this course include a selection from:
• Customer service in travel and tourism
• The UK travel and tourism industry
• Promotion in travel and tourism
• Travel agency operations
• UK purpose built visitor attractions
• Work experience in travel and tourism
The Cabin Crew course additionally covers:
• Working as cabin crew
• Airline health, safety and security
• Aircraft emergency situations
• Dealing with passengers on-board an aircraft
• Cabin Service – selling techniques
• Making passenger announcements
You will learn in several different ways including individual and group assignments, practical application of classroom-based teaching and industry-related projects, together with visits to a range of travel and tourism attractions. Previous trips have been in the UK and included Flamingo Land, York Dungeons, Newcastle Airport, local hotels and Edinburgh Christmas Market.
*You will be required to participate in trips and visits which may incur costs. You be notified of any trips and visits in a timely manner.
* All trips are subject to change, due to Covid19 regulations.
Students who have studied this course usually progress on to our Level 3 Travel and Tourism. With further training you can look for jobs in travel agencies, airline customer services, hospitality and tour operators.
