Course Assessment Method
Course work is continually assessed and formally marked at the end of each assignment, all assignments feed into the units of the course. For each unit course work involves working to a brief and will be a mixture of research, written work and practical work. All work is marked against the learning outcomes and grading criteria for each unit.
No formal qualifications are required, but a keen interest in the art and media industry is essential. We will request a school or college report and you will need to attend an interview at the college.
A good level of ICT knowledge is required.
What does it Cost?
This course is free if you are 16-18 years of age on August 31 of the calendar year in which you begin your studies. If you are 19+ years of age fees may apply. However help may be available. To see if you can receive any funding call our Student Services Team on 01325 503030.
Course fees are payable to Darlington College. Registration and membership fees may be payable. All course fees are per year.

This is an exciting course which uses a mixture of art, design and creative media to help you develop confidence, industry knowledge and skills in order to progress on to a Level 2 qualification. This course is perfect for creative thinkers and will teach you the relevant skills needed to develop your original ideas and artistic flair. You will be expected to learn basic theory and complete practical projects in a range of areas including; art, design, mixed media, photography, video and audio, and enterprise activities. You will also learn about the many fantastic job opportunities and progression routes within the creative arts and media sectors to help you begin your journey towards subject specific specialisms. If you are interested in photography, game design, 3D design, TV and film, fine art, textiles or graphics, then this course is an excellent starting point for you.
If you have not achieved a grade 4 or above in English or maths then you will be required to work towards this as part of your study programme. Work experience is embedded into your course through live assignments and industry relevant units. The college will support any students who are keen to explore work experience opportunities outside of the classroom.
This course is designed to help you make the step towards Level 2 study. In particular, providing a clear and transparent progression route to Level 2 Art and Design and Level 2 Creative Digital Media.
The course will introduce you to a range of employment opportunities within the creative arts and media sectors and help you to make well informed choices on vocational options with a heightened awareness of employment opportunities.
