There are no specific entry requirements.
However, There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at Level 1.
The purpose of this qualification is to provide learners with an understanding of the active leisure sector and to explain the links between activity and better health, demonstrating the opportunities within daily life to become more active. Learners will develop their employability skills which is critical to aiding their chances of gaining and sustaining employment in the short, medium and long term. Learners are also provided with the knowledge and skills to be able to assist with the planning, preparation and delivery of safe and effective sport and physical activity sessions.
Within the study programme you will complete:
Active IQ Level 1 Award in Active, Healthy Living
Active IQ Level 1 Award in Fitness and Physical Activity
Active IQ Level 1 Award in Lifestyle Management
Active IQ Level 1 Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity
It is also expected you study English and Maths if you have not alreacy achieved a Grade 4.
There is also a series of tutorial sessions and one to one tutirials to monitor your progress and set targets.
Course Assessment Method
To complete the course there is various methods of assessment including:
-Portfolio of Evidence
You can progress to the Level 2 sport programme, you have a choice of the Fitness route or General Sport route.
Also potential other qualifications with the awarding body:
Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing.
Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Leading Health-Related Activity Sessions.
Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Leisure Operations.

What does it Cost?
This course is free if you are 16-18 years of age on August 31 of the calendar year in which you begin your studies. If you are 19+ years of age fees may apply. However help may be available. To see if you can receive any funding call our Student Services Team on 01325 503030.
Course fees are payable to Darlington College. Registration and membership fees may be payable. All course fees are per year.
