Whilst there are no specific entry requirements, a good understanding of how to use computers is strongly recommended. The course is aimed at anyone working in or wanting to work in computer networking.

The course is part of the Darlington College Cisco Networking Academy and comprises of 4 modules from the Cisco Certified Network Associate programme. Upon completion you will be prepared to take the CCNA certification recognised by employers as the foundation that networking careers are built upon. It will give you more career options and prepares you for network evolution in the digital era. You will gain current knowledge on all the latest technology changes and it will help you stand out to employers. Finally, certification helps to increase your salary. Note the CCNA certification exam is not included in the course and is administered separately.
The Darlington College Blended Learning CCNA programme is a combination of in-person instruction and remote training. A flexible option for studying for your CCNA, without the commitment to regular class times.

Using the Cisco NetAcad, Cisco Packet Tracer from home, this type of learning provides world class IT training online.
As a blended learning student, you will access e-learning material and complete lab exercises using real networking devices and virtual desktops that are easy to use and manage.

Course Assessment Method
Using the Cisco Netacad students will have access to all materials online. The modules and chapters are assessed via multiple-choice tests as well as theory and knowledge using real equipment in the CCNA lab. Through the CCNA you will also have to build a LAN, connect WAN devices and configure routers and switches in the lab environment.
Students are assigned a Cisco CCAI Networking Academy Programme approved instructor at the start of the course who will provide course support and guidance via email.
Students will have a total of 3 lab slots per module to use flexibly with the suggested pattern of:
> 1 x 3 hour lab slot to use the equipment for challenge labs, preparation for skills finals and some one to one tuition
> 1 x 3 hour lab slot for end of module skills final (2 hours) and some one to one tuition
> 1 x 3 hour lab slot and some one to one tuition and revision before taking end of module final exam 1:15
In-person lab support is available on campus between 6pm and 9pm on alternate Wednesday evenings. Note: if additional time in the lab is required it can be booked at an additional fee of £50 to cover costs.
