The diploma in Plastering provide a learner the opportunity to progress from beginner to advanced level plastering. It provides recognition of the knowledge and skills needed to work in this area of the construction field.
This is a practical course which will allow you to learn and develop various skills relating to the trade. The course has been designed to:
> Introduce learners to the plastering industry
> Help learners progress in this area often industry
> Develop skills and knowledge at this level
> Prepare for taking further qualifications to enable them to enter the industry in their craft.
The Study programme of the level 1 Diploma in Plastering will consist of five key elements which you will need to complete:
> Individual and group tutorial sessions
> Industry related work placement (if appropriate)
> Development of English and mathematics. You will be required to undertake a formal qualification if you have not already achieved English and/or Maths at Level 2.
> Development of enterprise and employability skills.
This is a predominately a practical based course, with the incorporation of underpinning knowledge delivered through theory sessions.
Practical assessments are carried out in the college site workshop area, you will also learn the key principals and techniques to plastering within this area. This course is supported by individual and group tutorial sessions.
The topics typically, covered within this course include:
> Health Safety and Welfare
> Principles of construction, information and communication
> Prepare background surfaces and mix plastering materials
> Applying scratch coats to internal backgrounds
> Fixing sheet materials
> Applying floating coats to wall
> Applying setting coats to wall

It is also expected that you will attend college in suitable work wear / clothes as you will get dirty though the use of plastering materials.
Health and safety are of paramount importance in the construction industry and we place a great emphasis on this part of your education.
If you enroll on, and undertake any course in the construction department you will be provided with and required to wear at all times (within the college workshop area) mandatory PPE as follows:
> Approved protective footwear with ankle support (Rigger type boots are not allowed)
> Approved safety glasses
> Approved hi-visibility vest

You will undertake graded assessments through a range of methods including:
> Practical tasks
> Online Multi-Choice Test
> Paper based Tests
You can progress by obtaining an employer who support you through a Level 2 Apprenticeship within Plastering.
