Hairdressing Apprenticeship Standard

Entry Requirements

You will need 4 GCSEs at grade D-E or grade 3-2 including maths and English, although a grade C or grade 4 in either English or maths is desirable, or a Level 1 Hairdressing qualification. Mature students will be assessed on individual merit. You must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant environment for the duration of the Apprenticeship.

You will be required to attend an interview at the college for all courses and Apprenticeships and we will request a school or college report.

What's Involved

A choice of two pathways:

> Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing pathway

> Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering pathway

This Apprenticeship will provide you with a range of hairdressing skills and knowledge to develop your skills whilst working in the hairdressing or barbering industry as an apprentice. You will be employed in a hairdressing salon/ barbers as an Apprentice and the qualification will allow you to work as a Junior Stylist or Barber.


> Client consultation

> Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp

> Cut hair using a range of techniques to achieve a variety of looks

> Style and finish hair using a range of techniques to achieve a variety of looks

> Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques

> Perming hair

Course Assessment Method

You will have a final end point assessment where you will need to demonstrate the skills, knowledge and understanding required.
