Individual employers set the selection criteria, but this is likely to include 5 GCSEs, including maths and English and Level 3 qualifications equivalent to at least 2 A Levels. You also need to have the ability to write to a degree level standard. However, relevant industrial experience will be considered as part of the selection process.
This Apprenticeship has been designed to provide access to development opportunities for as wide a range of individuals as possible. This includes individuals who are at the start of their career and who wish to take their first steps into professional management, as well as those who may already have developed practical experience but who wish to develop their theoretical understanding of management skills.
The Apprenticeship programme is designed with a CMI Level 5 Leadership and Management qualification included. As part of this coursework assessed qualification, Apprentices may study the following modules:
> Personal development as a manager and leader
> Information based decision making
> Managing performance
> Resource management
> Meeting stakeholder and quality needs
> Marketing planning
> Project development and control
> Managing recruitment
In addition, a workplace portfolio will be produced that will demonstrate competency across a range of knowledge, skills, and behaviours. The portfolio evidence will consist largely of activities carried out as part of the Apprentice’s job role.
Course Assessment Method
Each module of the Level 5 Leadership and Management qualification is assessed through a written piece of coursework. Supplementing this, a work based project will also be undertaken, and this will be included as a module on the programme and forms an element of the End Point Assessment. The End Point Assessment must be successfully achieved to complete the apprenticeship programme.
The End Point Assessment:
Each Apprenticeship standard is concluded with a competency test called the End Point Assessment. For the Leadership and Management standard this assessment consists of the following elements:
> Scenario based questions to test knowledge
> Competency based interview
> Presentation of work based project and findings with Q and A
> Assessment of portfolio of evidence
> Professional discussion relating to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activity.
Students from this programme have continued on to study Level 7 Strategic Leadership and Management.
