We recommend that you should have completed a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy or Nail Services, or hold a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy or Nail Services. Alternatively you may have other relevant experience that relate to other job roles found within a spa environment.
This apprenticeship leads to a specialist vocational qualification which will enable learners to gain the skills, knowledge and understanding required in order to perform advanced techniques in Beauty Therapy such as Hot Stone Massage, Indian Head Massage and Aromatherapy Massage. You will also learn advanced techniques in facial electrical treatments, such as Microdermabrasion and Non-Surgical Facelifts.
Learners will be able to gain the skills, knowledge and understanding to perform professional beauty/massage treatments for clients, and provide advanced skills to enable learners to gain employment in the beauty industry.
To develop your employability opportunities, there is the option to attend enrichment classes, for example: Spray Tan Courses, Lash extension Courses, Advanced Waxing. These may focus upon additional qualifications, industrial updating and career preparation.
You must have completed a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy or a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy prior to beginning the Level 3 Apprenticeship.
As part of your apprenticeship you will study the following units:
> G22 Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
> H32 Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities
> B20 Provide body massage treatments
> B23 Provide Indian Head massage treatments
> B24 Carry out massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils
> B28 Provide stone therapy treatments
> B14 Provide facial electrical treatments
Willingness to work flexible hours/days as agreed in the employment contract. A high degree of dexterity and coordination. Potential Apprentices with a predisposition to certain skin conditions or allergies, such as occupational dermatitis, eczema or asthma, need to understand that some chemicals, liquids and aerosols used in the spa therapy industry may have a significant effect on their health.
Course Assessment Method
You will be assessed on a continual basis for written and practical work, both in college and at your work placement. At the end of the apprenticeship you will need to submit a portfolio of evidence which you will be shown how to complete. Written tests will also be completed and a pass mark of 100% is to be achieved.
On completion of your apprenticeship, you may enter any of our related areas such as nails, complementary therapies or hairdressing to allow you to gain more skills to add to your employment portfolio. Employment opportunities could include working as a beauty therapist, working in beauty salons, health spas or set up your own business. Maybe you dream of travelling?
