You must also supply details of two personal referees who are not relatives and the college will formally write to them to obtain up to date references to support your application. You will require a clear enhanced DBS form and Barring by Association form, otherwise you will not be accepted onto this course.
We will request a school or college report and you will attend an interview at the college.
What does it Cost?
This course is free if you are 16-18 years of age on August 31 of the calendar year in which you begin your studies.

Course fees are payable to Darlington College. Registration and membership fees may be payable. All course fees are per year.

The Technical Level 3 Certificate in Childcare and Education prepares learners for the Technical Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator). It provides learners with knowledge with children from birth to 7 years and practical experience working with children from birth to 5 years. Students will access 365 hours (of the 750 needed to complete the Diploma) of practical work experience covering the age ranges from birth to 5 years.
This course is delivered in 2 standalone years. In year one you will achieve a certificate and in year two you will achieve a diploma.
For this course you will spend 2 days in placement and 3 days in college.
The units are:

> Understanding children’s additional needs

As part of your level 3 study programme there is an expectation that learners will participate in the Government Industrial Placement trial during their course placement element.

This qualification prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years.
Upon achievement of this qualification it is intended that learners will be able to progress onto the Technical Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) – Year 2.

Course Assessment Method
Units are assessed internally and marked by your tutor. You must achieve a D grade/Pass grade to be awarded the unit.
There will be one externally marked, controlled assessment.
When assessing competence, there will be direct observation of learners in a real work environment (placement) covering all the following age ranges:

> 2-2 years 11 months
> 3-5 years
