Entry Requirements

- GCSE at grade 4 (grade C) or above in English (or equivalent)

- Level 3 or equivalent in your intended subject specialism

- satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for regulated activity

- a teaching practice placement of at least 100 hours in an appropriate context

- successful completion of a formal interview.

What's Involved

The full-time programme is a pre-service award for those intending to teach in the sector

You study a range of modules that takes you from preparing to teach through to more advanced practice skills. You also study issues affecting the education and training educational sector, such as educational policy, quality assurance, and your own personal and professional development needs.

All programmes are mapped to the relevant occupational standards - Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers in Education and Training – England (The Education and Training Foundation) which are referred to throughout your progression through the programme..

Enhancing Learning and Teaching

Evidence Informed Learning and teaching

Thinking in Learning and Teaching

Course Assessment Method

Typically you are assessed by a combination of written assessments, reflective teaching journals, teaching portfolios, and observations of your teaching practice.

Within the academic year there are 2 compulsory (assessed) student conferences where you work with fellow subject specialists. If you are already in employment you must make arrangements to attend. The dates for the events are identified within induction week.

What's Next

Completion of the full certificate will enable you to apply for QTLS status.

Appropriate careers are practising in the full teaching role in Learning and Skills Sector educational contexts.
