Individual employers set the selection criteria, but this is likely to include a Diploma in Accounting Level 3 or PE1, or equivalent of the senior accountancy qualifications or a UK degree in accounting. You will be required to have an interview/informal chat with the tutor before enrolling on this course.
Individuals in the role of a Professional accounting or tax technician will have responsibility for creating, and/or verifying and reviewing, accurate and timely financial information within the organisation in which they are employed or on behalf of another organisation. Successful completion of this apprenticeship will give you the vital skills and knowledge needed to undertake a team leadership role in an accounting environment.
In the qualification you will cover higher accounting tasks including:

The synoptic assessment will ask students to apply knowledge and skills gained across the qualification in an integrated way, within a workplace context. Scenarios will change over time to ensure the validity of the assessment
In addition, a workplace portfolio will be produced using a supplied template, that will demonstrate competency across a range of knowledge, skills, and behaviours. The portfolio evidence will consist largely of activities carried out as part of the apprentice’s job role.
Our Accounting qualifications are delivered in partnership with Mindful Education using an online and on campus model. Your study will be blended, spending some time face to face in College and some time learning online.
Online lessons can be accessed at any time, using a mobile, tablet or desktop – allowing you to fit your study around work and life commitments. Each lesson lasts around 45 minutes and can be re-visited as often as you need. Lessons are accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life, and exercises and interactive case studies help to enhance the learning experience further.
On campus, you will benefit from face-to-face classes (or virtual classroom sessions) at your local partner college with an experienced tutor. A combination of tutor-led lessons, group exercises and discussion help you apply theory to real-life workplace situations.
Note regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19): Due to the nature of our Online and On Campus courses, with key concepts being taught online through high-quality video lectures, students are able to continue their studies seamlessly with social distancing in place or if the college has to close. Regular ‘On Campus’ lessons are replaced by remote ‘virtual classroom’ sessions led by college tutors. This flexible approach can be easily adapted to suit government guidance and college policies.
This course requires a substantial commitment of time outside of onsite classroom time and you should be prepared to spend approximately 8 - 9 hours per week on your studies at home, including the time you spend on Mindful resources.
Course Assessment Method
Each AAT module is assessed via a computer based exam. In addition to the modules listed there is an additional synoptic assessment, this takes account of learning from the majority of modules on the programme and forms part of the End Point Assessment.
The End Point Assessment:
> Each Apprenticeship standard is concluded with a competency test called the End Point Assessment - this assessment consists of the following elements:
1) A Portfolio of evidence that demonstrates competence in the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours defined in the Standard, which have been gathered from practical experience in the workplace. This can include outputs from work, independent feedback, observations and professional discussions. The Apprentice must then produce a Reflective Statement that
reflects on this Portfolio, either through a written statement, presentation or structured discussion with Independent Assessors appointed by an Assessment Organisation.
2) A Role Simulation giving the Apprentice the opportunity to tackle a series of business-related tasks through a simulation that reflects activities undertaken in a typical role at this level of competence. An Assessment Organisation will set the simulation, ensure robust invigilation and mark the assessment.
