Course Assessment Method
The New Apprenticeship Standard has an End Point Assessment which consists of 2 discrete assessment methods:
Assessment method 1: Knowledge Test
Assessment method 2: Professional Discussion underpinned by the Portfolio
Performance in the End Point Assessment will determine the overall apprenticeship standard and grade of:
· Fail
· Pass
· Distinction
Within the Level 3 Early Years Workforce qualification, you will be assessed by your tutor through a range of methods. This will include a portfolio of evidence and written assignments. You will also complete a longitudinal study set by the awarding body and demonstrate competency through direct observations in a real work environment.
Entry Requirements
To undertake a Level 3 Early Years Apprenticeship you are required to hold 5 GCSE's/level 2 qualification, along with Maths and Englsih at grade C/4 or above.
You will also need to secure employment in an Early Years setting such as; full day care, children’s centre, pre-school, reception class or childminders.

What's Involved
Duration is typically 18 months
Apprentices will be expected to work in an Early Years Setting for 4 days a week where you will be ensuring that young children learn and develop and are kept healthy and safe.
You will support the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which is a requirement set by the Government for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old.
You will be required to attend college 1 day a week (Tuesday), where the following themes will be studied;
> Theme 1: Health and well-being
> Theme 2: Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
> Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness
> Theme 4: Professional development
The programme is made up of 23 mandatory units and all units must be completed.
To achieve an Apprenticeship students must successfully complete;
- NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) qualification and
- The New Apprenticeship Standard which includes a Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid OR
- The current Apprenticeship Framework which includes a Level 2 ICT qulaification/exam.
What's Next
You can progress into the work force as a Level 3 Early Years Educator.
