Entry Requirements

CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

- GCSE (or standard equivalent) in English grade C (4) or above.

- Level 3 or equivalent in the intended subject specialism.

- Satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

- A teaching practice placement of at least 100 hours in an appropriate context(this must be arranged by the student and evidenced via a teaching practice agreement signed by the placement provider)..

- Successful completion of a formal interview that demonstrates:

• intellectual and academic suitability for the course;

• appropriate attitudes and values expected of a teacher working in the education and training sector;

• the ability to communicate clearly and accurately in standard English.

PROFESSIONAL GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

- A degree in an area suitably linked to subject teaching within the education and skills sector.

- Satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

- A teaching practice placement of at least 100 hours in an appropriate context (this must be arranged by the student and evidenced via a teaching practice agreement signed by the placement provider).

- Successful completion of a formal interview that demonstrates:

• intellectual and academic suitability for the course;

• appropriate attitudes and values expected of a teacher working in the education and training sector;

• ability to communicate clearly and accurately in standard English.

What's Involved

The full-time programme is a pre-service award for those intending to teach in the sector

You study a range of modules that takes you from preparing to teach through to more advanced practice skills. You also study issues affecting the education and training educational sector, such as educational policy, quality assurance, and your own personal and professional development needs.

All programmes are mapped to the relevant occupational standards - Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers in Education and Training – England (The Education and Training Foundation) which are referred to throughout your progression through the programme.

Developing Learning and Teaching

Enhancing Learning and Teaching

Evidence Informed Learning and teaching

Thinking in Learning and Teaching

Course Assessment Method

Typically you are assessed by a combination of written assessments, reflective teaching journals, teaching portfolios, and observations of your teaching practice.

Within the academic year there are 2 compulsory (assessed) student conferences where you work with fellow subject specialists. If you are already in employment you must make arrangements to attend. The dates for the events are identified within induction week.

Certificate in Education students will be asssessed at level 4 and 5

Professional Graduate Certificate in Education students will be assessed at level 5 and 6

What's Next

Completion of the full certificate will enable you to apply for QTLS status.

Certificate in Education students could progress to our BA in Education & Training

Professional Graduate Certificate in Education students could progress to an MA
