Entry Requirements

No Formal Entry requirements, but a keen interest in the area is essential.

You will be required to attend an interview at the college for the courses and we will request a school or college report.

What's Involved

This is one of the most in-demand?construction jobs?around?because everyone needs an electrician at some time or other.

Working in construction as an electrician involves a high level of responsibility, because very strict safety regulations must be met. He or she must keep up to date with the different types of legislation covering electrical equipment.

As with many other construction careers, this role gives you the chance to get involved with all kinds of work on all kinds of projects. Electricians could be needed to bring power safely into people’s homes or be on the team of a major construction engineering project.

They are highly skilled in inspecting electrical systems, equipment and components so they can identify and repair anything that doesn’t work properly. They test every kind of electrical equipment and repair or replace wiring, equipment and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.

There are plenty of opportunities for working on projects that help the environment. They can work in renewable technology; such as wind turbines or photovoltaic systems that turn the sun’s energy into electricity.

Some electricians specialise:

Installation electrician - puts power, lighting, fire protection, security and data-network systems into buildings

According to the latest Construction Skills Network research, an additional 175,440 construction vacancies in Electrical Trades and Installation will be created between 2017 – 2021.

This qualification is for those waiting to enter the Electrical industry. It gives you the opportunity to pick up some core skills and knowledge and gives you the opportunity to progress onto either our Level 2 & 3 Electrical Installation qualifications.

These qualifications are aimed at learners who want to learn the basic skills and knowledge of Electrical Installation.

This Level is suitable for beginners. You will be learning basic skills and knowledge and will be supervised as you undertake various practical and knowledge based activities.

What's Next

This course can help in the process of gaining employment within the construction industry, to begin an Apprenticeship within Electrical or you could progress onto the Electrical Level 2 Full time qualification.
