Entry Requirements
4 GCSE subjects at Grade 3/D or above, Or an appropriate Level 1 qualification. You will also need to attend an interview at the college and supply details of two personal referees to support your application.
To complete the placement aspect of this course, you will be required to complete an enhanced disclosure DBS check. We will contact you prior to enrolment to arrange this check. Please do not purchase your DBS through an external company as external DBS checks may not be accepted by us or our placement settings.
What's Involved
This level 2 Diploma in care qualification will support learners to develop the knowledge and skills required to work in a range of clinical healthcare support settings such as hospital wards, health clinics, or hospital laboratories or care home facility's.
The Diploma in Care study programme will consist of 4 key elements which you will need to complete:
> Main qualification – as above
> Individual and group tutorial sessions
> Industry related work placement
> Development of English and mathematics.
The course duration is made up of 3/4 days in college depending on GCSE requirements. You will also complete 1 mandatory day in placement per week.
This course includes 18 topics an some of what we teach are listed below:
Communication
Person centred approaches to care
Supporting individuals with day to day activities
Understanding mental health and well-being
Dementia
Diabetes awareness.
Infection control
Personal development
Supporting eating and drinking
You will need to complete 14 mandatory units and 4 optional units to achieve this qualification, This assessed mainly via coursework or within work placement, there are no written exams.
Course Assessment Method
You will be assessed in a number of ways, including;
> Assignment based tasks
> Assessment at placement
> Externally assessed assignments.
What's Next
This qualification will enable you to progress on a level 3 qualification, or access to HE Qualification depending on GCSE grades.
Alternatively, at the end of the course you will have the skills required to pursue a career within the health sector such as an Assistant Dietician, Maternity Support Worker, Medical Laboratory Assistant, Occupational Health Therapy Assistant, or Physiotherapy Assistant.

What does it Cost?
This course is free if you are 16-18 years of age on August 31 of the calendar year in which you begin your studies.
