Entry Requirements
You will need 5 GCSE subjects with 4 points or C grade and above.
It is recommended that you either have, or study towards GCSE Maths and English or equivalent at 4 points or C grade in English or maths as this is necessary for employment.
Alternatively, progression from Level 2 Diploma in Childcare and Education.
What's Involved
The course will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children or young people in school environments.
Real Work placements will consist of a primary/secondary setting for a minimum of 150 hours (1 day per week).
Mandatory units include:
-Schools and colleges as organisations
-Support health and safety in a learning environment
-Understand how to safeguard children and young people
-Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults
-Understand how children and young people develop
-Support positive behaviour in children and young people
-Support children and young people during learning activities
-Support English and maths skills
-Support the use of ICT in the learning environment
-Support assessment for learning
-Engage in personal and professional development
-Support children and young people’s speech, language and communication 60
-Understand how to support bilingual learners
-Understand how to support learning of children and young people with special
educational needs and disabilities
-Support children and young people during transitions
-Support the role of play, leisure and extra-curricular activities for children and young
people
Course Assessment Method
By your tutor and placement assessor through a range of methods This could include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments and reflective accounts.
What's Next
Employment in schools or progress onto the Foundation Degree Working With Children and Young People.
The course is suitable for those wanting to pursue a career or currently in the role as a teaching assistant, learning support assistant, parent support advisers, learning mentors or similar roles at Level 3.
