Entry Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements. As there is an element of communication involved (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at Level 3. Performing sports massage is a physical activity and learners will need to be fit enough to carry this out. Learners will also need to be prepared to act as a client as well as a therapist.
The qualification has been designed for:
Learners aged 16+.
Those who wish to further their careers in sports massage with healthy adults.
What's Involved
On completion of this course you will be competent in anatomy and physiology and the principles of health and fitness, have an understanding of the principles of soft tissue dysfunction, be aware of professional practice in sports massage, and pass assessments in three practical sports massage treatments. All five mandatory units must be successfully completed to achieve the full qualification.
You will be able to provide sports massage therapy to a range of clients who have dysfunctional tissue (without acute injuries or underlying pathological conditions) by assessing and constructing sports massage treatment plans.
Course Assessment Method
You will be internally assessed via:
> Coursework – workbook including 5 units and assignment
> Three observations – Client assessment, and treatment planning for a pre, post and maintenance massage
> Critical evaluation
What's Next
This qualification provides progression on to:
> Active IQ Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy.
> Routes into fitness instructing.
Career:
Learners have the opportunity to work as a Sports Massage Therapist in health clubs, sports clubs or on a self-employed basis.
