Construction and Building Trades

Subject Overview

Darlington College offers a wide range of different and exciting opportunities within the field of construction. We offer full-time programmes in Carpentry and Joinery, Brickwork, Plastering, Electrical Installation, Plumbing, and Multi Construction Skills.

We have invested heavily in facilities and are very proud of our Construction Innovation Centre. We have large workshops for bricklaying, joinery, plastering, plumbing, electrical installation and Multi Construction Skills work, as well as classrooms, two computer suites, a gas assessment centre and a green energy room.

We focus heavily on embedding health and safety into the department and thus have a PPE Portal which all students must pass through to equip themselves with appropriate PPE including Safety boots and a high visibility vest to undertake workshop tasks. This is a view to prepare learners for the demands of working on a real construction site.

We also offer Apprenticeships in all areas (Carpentry and Joinery, Brickwork, Plastering Plumbing and electrical installation).

If you do not hold an offer of a job for your apprenticeship you will need to register with The National Apprenticeship Service
