Maths, English and ESOL

Subject Overview

The Maths and English Department delivers a wide range of qualifications all externally accredited by Edexcel ranging from Entry Level(s) through to GCSE accreditation.

Functional Skills are offered in both subjects and taught on a part-time basis with both daytime and evening lessons. Accreditation is available from Entry Level 1 up to Level 2. These adult return to learn courses are free of charge.

GCSEs in Maths and English are offered on a part-time basis both daytime and evenings. Tuition is free and both are externally examined.

ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages)

Part-time ESOL classes will change this year because of Covid-19.  The teaching will be a mixture of face-to-face in the classroom and on-line learning.  You will be given guidance on this.  These lessons will be taught by ESOL teachers.

From September 2020 to December 2020 we will deliver:

  • Entry Level and Level 1 Functional Skills English;
  • These classes are free;
  • You will be taught speaking and listening, reading and writing;
  • The classes are in the daytime or evening

Our usual ESOL classes (Entry 1 to Level 2) will start in January 2021.  The classes will focus on speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

Pre-Entry students will have the same chances to study and learn without taking an exam.  Speaking and listening will be taught until December.  Reading and writing classes will start in January 2021.

Additional classes in Literacy, Functional Skills maths and ICT (computers), which are taught by ESOL teachers, will start in January 2021.
