Subject Overview
Interested in a career in Public Services? The Public and Uniformed Services, such as the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Fire Brigade, Ambulance, Paramedics, Customs and Excise and Security are always looking for physically fit, enthusiastic and well-prepared recruits to train for a variety of careers within the services.
Key skills of leadership, assertiveness, and physical fitness are very important and emphasised in all of our courses. Our students have an exciting programme of external activities, from adventure training to experiencing army life to help hone their skills. You will find out what people in different services do in their job roles, how they work and how they interact with each other. You will develop skills and qualities that potential uniformed service employers would be looking for. These qualities were recently highlighted by Captain David Straw from the Bradford Armoury, at the Army Reserve Centre in Darlington following an ‘experience’ day that students attended at the centre. Our public service students were viewed as great ambassadors for the college and Captain David Straw commented how delighted he was to meet such well behaved and well-mannered students, who were keen to learn and engage in the experience day.
We offer a range of courses from level 1 to foundation degree for progression into direct recruitment in the public services or progression into higher education for courses such as Criminology and Law. All our tutors are highly skilled and experienced within the public services and will support and advice you into the field of public and uniformed services.
