Join us at Catterick Leisure Centre this Spring for an all-new Open Event tailored for adult learners, offering a range of taster activities from bird box building to Childcare and Nutrition from creative writing, learn something new and exciting.

Available tasters

English

Write your world, creative writing for your wellbeing – Creative writing taster.

Get creative with words and folding paper and help build an inspirational display – English

Hair and Beauty

Develop skills by learning step by step techniques by an expert in the role! 

Watch an expert create a fantasy make up look and then give it a go yourself. 

Learn the basics of manicures, and then enjoy a creative experience designing some nail art! 

Catering

Sick of eating the same lunch everyday?  Looking for inspiration? Find out how to spruce up your sarnies and pack in all the nutrients your children will need for a balanced diet. 

Maths

Funk it up! Functional skills can be great fun, find out how by making maths socks and a t-shirt! -Functional Skills maths

Bird box

Make a small bird box along with some bird feed balls to get the birds into your outside area! – Bird box and bird feed by Lisa

Engineering

Beat the buzzer by having a go at getting the loop around the track, requiring a steady hand so make sure not to cave under pressure! Make the leader board and the winner will receive a mystery prize!

Have a go at cable manufacturing, make a wiring loom that can be found on most machines and trains!

Make a handy keychain and/or bracelet and take it home with you!

Childcare and Health

Learn first aid for the whole family.

Get messy in play with mindfulness and sensory play for parent and child.

Practice your effective listening and practical mental health

Art

Community Art Project – Contribute to a collaborative piece of art representing your local community.

Storyboard This

Students will use basic drawing skills and knowledge of shot types to create an exciting and dramatic story. 

Information on Professional Qualifications will also be available on the day. 

Distance Learning

Our distance learning team will be on hand at the event to introduce learners interested in completing a level 2 course at home.

We have 15 courses currently available including:

  • Level 2: Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Level 2: Certificate in Principles of Business Administration
  • Level 2: Certificate in Understanding Autism
  • Level 2: Certificate in Principles of Team Leading
